IoT & Connected Systems
Devices, radios and the cloud that receives their data: BLE, LoRa and LTE-M hardware, MQTT ingestion, real-time dashboards and the analytics on top.
At a glance
- Device firmware on BLE, LoRa, LTE-M and NB-IoT
- Ingestion over MQTT, HTTP and CoAP, queued and decoded
- Real-time dashboards and live maps
- Positioning and anomaly models on sensor data
Momentaj's IoT work runs from circuit board to cloud. We have built tags, gateways and trackers, platforms that ingest a hundred million readings a week, and the live maps and dashboards that make the data useful. Today that experience also feeds our AI work: sensor streams are where anomaly detection and forecasting earn their keep.
What we build
- Devices and firmware. Low-power tags and trackers on BLE, LoRa, LTE-M and NB-IoT, from off-the-shelf modules for proofs of concept to custom boards on the Nordic nRF9160 with Zephyr RTOS. Power budgets measured, not assumed.
- Gateways and ingestion. Vehicle and building gateways that bridge short-range radios to cellular, and cloud ingestion over MQTT, HTTP and CoAP with authentication, throttling and a queue between every stage.
- Platforms. Multi-tenant device management, real-time delivery to browsers, geospatial queries, alerts and reporting.
- Analytics. Indoor positioning from signal strength, anomaly detection on sensor streams, forecasting on telemetry.
How it's done
Match the radio to the resource, log every hop so reliability can be measured per link, and keep the cloud layered: ingest, queue, decode, store, stream. The same architecture has carried three products.
Proof
Momentrack: four device types on three radios and a private cloud with a live incident map, delivered for the Department of National Defence with 98.7% of road-test location reports reaching the cloud. uBeac: a multi-tenant IoT platform that grew to 3,000+ users and was acquired. Research with George Brown College and Ryerson University on beacon positioning reached 85% zone accuracy.
Frequently asked questions
Do you do hardware design?
Yes, for firmware and board-level design on proven modules, and we work with Canadian electronics design firms for custom boards, enclosures and certification.
Which protocols?
BLE, LoRa and LoRaWAN, LTE-M and NB-IoT on the device side; MQTT, HTTP and CoAP into the cloud; WebSockets and SignalR out to browsers.
